1. Introduction

Welcome to Babylon Budget (“we,” “us,” “our”). Babylon Budget is a personal finance tracking service operated by HGWEBSITES LLC, a Missouri limited liability company (“Company”), doing business as Babylon Budget at babylonbudget.app.

This Privacy Policy explains what data we collect about you when you use Babylon Budget, how we use it, who we share it with, and what rights you have. By using Babylon Budget, you agree to the practices described here.

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Information You Provide Directly

  • Account information: Your email address and name, managed through our authentication provider Clerk.
  • Financial data you input: Budget categories, monthly targets, income entries, expense entries, savings deposits, debt balances and payments, transaction descriptions, and any notes you attach.
  • Uploaded documents: Bank statements, credit card statements, or similar financial documents you upload for AI parsing. Files are processed in memory and NOT retained on our servers after processing completes (typically within 60 seconds).
  • AI conversation content: Text messages you send to Arkad, our AI Babylonian Coach.

2.2 Payment Information

If you subscribe to Pro tier, your payment card information is collected and processed entirely by Stripe. We never see, store, or process your full credit card number. Stripe returns to us only: customer ID, subscription ID, subscription status, and renewal date.

2.3 Automatically Collected Information

  • Usage data: Which pages you visit, features you use, actions you take (transactions logged, AI queries made).
  • Device data: Browser type, operating system, device type (for troubleshooting).
  • Session tokens: Managed by Clerk for authentication.

2.4 Information from Third Parties

  • Stripe: Payment status, subscription changes, billing events (via webhooks).
  • Clerk: Authentication events and account status.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use collected information to:

  • Provide the Babylon Budget service (track your finances, run AI analysis on your requests)
  • Process payments and manage your subscription
  • Authenticate and secure your account
  • Send transactional emails (welcome, receipts, failed payment warnings, service updates)
  • Analyze aggregated usage patterns to improve the product
  • Comply with legal obligations
  • Respond to support requests

We do NOT:

  • Sell your data to third parties
  • Share your data for advertising purposes
  • Use your financial data to build advertising profiles
  • Share individual user data with any party except as described in Section 4

4. Third-Party Services We Use

To provide Babylon Budget, we share limited data with these processors:

4.1 Clerk — Authentication

Data shared: Email, name, authentication credentials.
Purpose: Manage user login and account.
Policy: clerk.com/privacy

4.2 Supabase — Database

Data shared: Financial data you enter (encrypted at rest).
Purpose: Store your budget, transactions, and settings.

4.3 Stripe — Payments

Data shared: Payment card details (entered on Stripe's hosted page), billing address, email.
Purpose: Process subscription payments.
Policy: stripe.com/privacy

4.4 Anthropic — AI Processing (Important Disclosure)

Data shared: Content of uploaded bank statements (during parsing), your questions and messages to Arkad, and a summary of your financial snapshot used to give Arkad context.
Purpose: Power AI features — statement parsing and coach responses.
Retention: Anthropic does not train models on API data per their commercial terms.

By uploading a bank statement or messaging Arkad, you consent to your data being processed by Anthropic under their commercial API terms.

4.5 Render — Application Hosting

Data shared: Server logs and application data in transit.
Purpose: Host and run Babylon Budget.
Policy: render.com/privacy

5. Data Storage and Security

  • All data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS/TLS 1.2+) and at rest.
  • Passwords are managed by Clerk (industry-standard hashing).
  • Payment card data is handled entirely by Stripe (PCI DSS compliant).
  • Uploaded bank statements are processed in memory and never persisted.
  • Database access is restricted to authorized personnel (currently: Henry Goodin, sole developer/operator).
  • We use Row-Level Security (RLS) at the database layer to prevent cross-user data access.

6. Data Retention

  • Account data: Retained while your account is active.
  • Financial data (transactions, categories): Retained until you delete them or your account.
  • Uploaded documents: Deleted immediately after processing.
  • AI conversation history: Not persisted on our servers.
  • Payment records: Retained for 7 years for tax/legal compliance.
  • Backups: Retained for up to 30 days.

Account deletion: You can delete your account at any time by emailing us. All associated data is permanently wiped within 30 days.

7. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have the following rights:

  • Access: Request a copy of the data we have about you.
  • Correction: Correct inaccurate data.
  • Deletion: Request deletion of your data.
  • Portability: Export your data.
  • Withdraw consent: Cancel your subscription and delete your account at any time.

7.1 California Residents (CCPA)

California residents have additional rights under the CCPA including the right to know what personal information we collect and the right to opt-out of the “sale” of personal information. We do not sell personal information.

7.2 EU/UK Residents (GDPR)

EU/UK residents may lodge complaints with local data protection authorities. Our legal basis for processing your data is contract performance — providing the service you signed up for.

8. Cookies

We use only essential cookies:

  • Clerk session tokens to keep you signed in
  • Preference cookies to remember your settings

We do NOT use marketing/tracking cookies, third-party ad networks, or social media pixels.

9. Children's Privacy

Babylon Budget is not intended for users under 18 years old. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you believe we have collected information from a minor, contact us immediately.

10. International Users

Babylon Budget is operated from the United States. If you access the service from outside the U.S., your data is transferred to and processed in the U.S. and other countries where our service providers operate.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we'll update the “Last updated” date and notify active users via email for material changes. Continued use after changes indicates acceptance.
